If we don’t feel any pain, how then can we be grateful for joy?.
Empower Your Negative Feelings
-Frances Carmille Alpuerto-
An emotional pain can be described as a heartache that results from a painful incident such as the loss of a loved one. Pain doesn’t excuse anyone. We are all human beings endowed with emotions. To go through and feel the pain is part of the game we call life. We can never be totally humans without getting hurt and experiencing the pain in our lives. Thus, we will not also mature without those challenges we face along the way.
Pain? What does it exactly do to us? There are many kinds and types of pain that come to us. It could be the pain injected by an argument between a close friend, a misunderstanding between your parents, physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual pain and the pain we feel upon losing a loved one. The way we handle and manage the pain we feel depends largely on us. Know that this certain emotion comes with a purpose. Cliché as it may seem but let me put in the picture that “No pain comes to us without a purpose.”
Friends, I tell you. We can empower our negative feelings. First, we must feel our feelings and understand ourselves. Our emotions give us three important gifts:
1) It reveals who we are;
We get to know more about ourselves every time we feel hurt and sad. We give more time in reflecting why we feel sad and on how can we best overcome it.
2) It draws us closer to God;
When we are deeply hurt, we end up talking and telling God. We asked Him to strengthen us, to enlighten us why we are feeling this way, to lighten up the load and to be with us in our suffering.
3) It reveals a message that will stir us to grow.
After the negative feeling, we will then understand and gain an important lesson that will even inspire us to grow. We will feel God’s blessing in disguise and we will eventually become a better and a stronger person.
Our emotions, especially the depressing ones are the windows to our souls. Every emotional problem we endure has an exterior message and a deeper message. Our growth comes from discerning the deeper message and following its recommendation. “Our feelings are elevators that bring us to where God wants us to go. Our negative feelings of anger, sadness and worry—they are not our permanent place. They are just the elevators that are supposed to move us to action, to follow the will of God.” Be blessed! J
